Book Boot Camp

Stiller5

Here’s the dealio:

Advertising agencies don’t care what classes you took in college. They don’t care how many thumbnails you drew. Or how many scripts you’ve written. All they want to see is one solid book that shows you have big ideas in the form of polished, finished ads.

That’s where we come in.

What is Book Boot Camp?

Book Boot Camp is a fast-paced, 10-week course that guarantees portfolio pieces – which is all ad agencies want to see. This program is taught by real creatives at a real advertising agency. We know exactly what agencies are looking for and how to get you there.

Yes, in just ten weeks.

You’re gonna sweat copy. You’re gonna bleed type. You’re gonna shed bad ads and add huge campaign ideas to your book. After ten weeks, you won’t even recognize your new book – the new you.

In the end, you’ll have solid proof that you can think intelligently, solve real client’s problems, write well, lay out a good-looking ad or be funny on command. And we’ll help make sure it happens.

Who joins Book Boot Camp?

Book Boot Camp is for aspiring Art Directors and Copywriters who are serious about a career in advertising; whether you’re about to graduate and want to add a few missing pieces to your existing book, or if you’re just starting out and want to get a jump on the competition.

How Book Boot Camp works:

On the very first day, the transformation begins. We’ll assess where you are; what should stay in your book, what you should finesse more, what needs to go entirely. We’ll identify strengths and weaknesses in your book and outline a plan: From there, we will:

• Eliminate work that isn’t doing you any justice

• Teach you how to turn decent thoughts into big ideas

• Broaden your clients, media executions, looks/tones

• Help you add at least two new campaigns or pieces to your book

• Push your writing; entertaining headlines, tags and copy

• Push your art direction; smarter type, color, layouts

• Give you the edge on your peers/competition

• Deliver insight into how a real ad agency works

• Show you the in’s and out’s of the industry to help you get your first job faster

Every two weeks, you’ll receive an assignment. Or two. Or three. Whatever it takes to whip your book into shape. Take the information you learn in school, combine it with our hands-on portfolio experience and knowledge to build a book that actually gets you into the advertising industry.

Be prepared to put in a lot of outside hours. You may be assigned a partner in class. You may need to find one on your own. You may receive individual assignments. It all varies.

Each week, you’ll present your work to the class the way you would a real client. You’ll receive feedback and personal attention from our instructors. In the end, how good your book is depends on how hard you work, just like the ad industry itself.

In week ten, you present your final portfolio to a Creative Director and a panel of Advertising Executives in a mock interview that helps you prepare for the real deal.

If you’re looking for a grade, you won’t find it here. However, if you’re looking for a solid book, and eventually a job in a really fun industry, you’ve come to the right place.
